Unit 7: Expressions and Equations 

1.  Equation

An equation must have at least 2 parts. Can you guess what those two parts are? 

2. Variable--In this picture, the smiley face is the variable. 
Other examples: 

1) 4x + 3 = 30 
2) 5 + b =10
3) 10 x g =70

What do you notice about the letters? 

3. Expression:

UNIT 8: Perimeter/Area/Volume

1. Perimeter 

Example: I walked around the outside of my yard to find its perimeter. That way, I could build a fence! 





Example 2: I traced my fingers along the outside of the picture to find its perimeter. Then, I created a picture frame for it! 



2. AREA  


I counted the number of square units inside each shape to find the area. 


Ms. Dray wanted to COVER the floor in her living room. She found the area of the floor and then bought a rug with the same area!
